Book news! Where We Stand, Where We Fall Available to Pre-Order

The beautiful cover has been created by artist Daryl Joyce

I’ve been working on this for rather a while now, and my book, Where We Stand, Where We Fall, is up for pre-order. I mentioned it on BlueSky last week, but here’s a whole post about it – and a 30% discount code if you pre-order direct from the publisher, Herne Books.

Where We Stand, Where We Fall is about the politics of Doctor Who – not all the politics, that would require a library – but the particular political issues I find most compelling in how the show engages with them. Doctor Who is now well over sixty years old, and there are certain topics it comes back to again and again; it’s fascinating to see how they’re explored and reframed over the decades.

This book has been a joy to write. It’s been a tremendous amount of work that’s made me appreciate more and more just how great Doctor Who can be, and the sheer depth and breadth of what it has to say about humanity. A special shout-out to the Pertwee era, which has been my comfort era for many years now, but I failed to appreciate just how much it cares, and how much it’s engaged in the politics of its time, far more deeply than at first glance (and it’s not exactly slacking at that first glance.)

Where We Stand, Where We Fall will be out from Herne Books in March, 2026. If you do pre-order, thank you so much – it means a lot to me.
