I've spent the past four years avoiding spoilers about Mass Effect 3, but now I've finished my first playthrough, I can go read as much spoilericous content as I like, hurrah! (This is a subtle hint there will be many ME3 spoilers in this entry.) I hate to be spoiled on a first runthrough of…
Game of Thrones 605 The Door
"Liz, by the end of this episode, you will be bawling your eyes out...for Hodor." "Do not be ridiculous, Hodor is an undeveloped, one-note character who's there, sadly, for cheap laughs, and to be The Big Dumb One. It is not a character trope that delights me. And this is not a particualrly interesting interpretation…
Game of Thrones 604 Book of the Stranger
In my concerted effort to Finish A Thing this week, I managed to forget to write lovely words about last week's Game of Thrones. It's Doctor Who all over again! (I will finish writing about last season, I WILL.) Anyway, here we are now. And IIRC correctly - it's only been a week so I…
Game of Thrones 603 Oathbreaker
Wheeee! So after a spiffy episode last week where there were amusing deaths and I felt seriously pandered to, this week feels a slight drop off. This is isn't to say it's a bad episode or sod all happened, but it wasn't terribly interested in moving along the story of most of my favourites, so…
Game of Thrones 6.02 Home
One of the most frustrating things about Game of Thrones - books and telly - is as the story goes on, the plotlines multiply to such an extent that a full book/season goes by and you feel like sod all happens. It's nudge, nudge, nudge, EXPLOSION, nudge - the sort of pacing which, oh, I…
Game of Thrones 6.01 The Red Woman
Quite excited that Game of Thrones is back on the telly this week (or last week, if you are States-wise - we get our ep on the Monday); and ever so slightly more excited than last year, because last year I was really Quite Bitter that there was no more Charles Dance. Alas, there is…
Bye bye, Blake
I was terribly to learn last night that Gareth Thomas, most famous for playing Blake in Blake's 7, has passed away. His work has given me so much joy over the years, not just Blake's 7 but really anything I saw him in (Children of the Stones is particularly winning), for he was a marvellous,…
Everything I Love About the Star Wars Rogue One Trailer
Because GOODNESS, I would never have guessed I'd be so excited! And I love Star Wars, and Force Awakens was amazingsauce, and yet I was still so "hrrrrm" about the anthology movies, until the teaser trailer was released on Friday. And it was so good. And here is why; all the whys, for me, it…

Eastercon 2016 Con Report
A timely con report! Well, almost timely. Eastercon, aka Mancunicon, took place pretty early this year, since it takes place (clue in the name) over the Easter weekend. Also, (more name clues) it was in Manchester aka NORTHERER THAN LONDON, YAY. So my travel time from home was delightfully modest. Also, Manchester is a little bit…
Women Writers Who Inspire Me
There are several things on the Twitters today that are making me ARGH, but this is one of the less rage-inducing ones, and more eye-rolly, so I can deal. Anyway, this is the story, and with context, you see why I'm more eyerolls than raging even though I did maayybe yell "NELLIE BLY" at the…
